F-Mills, Stanton announce hiring of superintendent

The Fremont-Mills and Stanton Community School Districts have announced the appointment of David Gute as their shared superintendent.

Gute will assume his new duties July 1, replacing Dr. Christopher Herrick, who is retiring on June 30 after serving the Fremont-Mills Community School District for 18 years.

Gute is currently serving as the 7th - 12th grade principal for the Riverside Community School District in Oakland, a position he’s held for the past nine years.

Before becoming principal at Riverside, he taught 5th grade and then science at  Riverside Middle School. While teaching, he coached several middle and high school sports.  

In his time as principal, Gute has focused on improving student achievement, implementing personal professional development and increased opportunities for teacher collaboration. Gute earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education, a master’s degree in education, and a school specialist certification from Iowa State University.  He and his wife, Jodi, have three elementary-aged children.
