Drug conviction earns Glenwood man 20 years in prison

COUNCIL BLUFFS - A 36-year-old Glenwood man was sentenced in United States District Court last week to serve 20 years in prison after being convicted of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine.

David Joseph Jay III appeared before U.S. District Court Judge John A. Jarvey on Thursday. The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of Iowa. In addition to the 20-year sentence, Jay was ordered to serve 10 years of supervised probation following his release.

Jay was arrested in April 2017, along with three other individuals, following an investigation coordinated by the Glenwood Police Department, Mills County Sheriff’s Office and the Southwest Iowa Narcotics Task Force. A search warrant executed at Jay’s Glenwood residence uncovered methamphetamine, lysergic and diethylamide (LSD), marijuana and prescription pills.

Jay and the other three individuals arrested last April, including two of Jay’s immediate family members, were charged in Mills County District Court. Glenwood Police Chief Eric Johansen said the investigation and local charges led to federal charges being issued against Jay at a later time.
