Cyclones too much for Rams

The Glenwood girls came all the way back from a double-digit deficit to trim Harlan’s lead to seven with six minutes to go but that would be as close as they would get as the top ranked Cyclones scored the game’s final 11 points in a 53-35 victory Friday in Hawkeye 10 Conference basketball.

“I’m proud of the effort the girls came back with tonight after a tough loss to St. Albert,” said Glenwood coach Wendy Lausen. “We were down by 10 at the start of the fourth quarter to the No. 1 team in the state, but there are still lots of controllable things we need to fix like boxing out and attacking off the dribble. St. Albert and Harlan are two very good teams.”

Molly Dean led Glenwood with 23 points. The Cyclones limited Ram leading scorer Danika Lucy, who entered averaging 15.5 points per game, to just two points.

Taylor Frederick paced Harlan with 21 points and Jordyn Moser added 14 points.

Glenwood 37

The Glenwood girls basketball team saw its six game winning streak snapped on Friday with a 59-37 loss at Council Bluffs St. Albert.

The Rams (7-5 overall, 5-3 in the conferencel) last suffered a loss to these same Saintes back on Dec. 12.
Glenwood trailed 30-25 at the half but the Saintes pulled away in the second half, out-scoring the Rams 29-12 after halftime.

Lucy led the Rams with 16 points.
Alyssa Carley scored a game-high 23 points to lead St. Albert. Paige Beacom added 17 points.

Glenwood  40,
Atlantic 37

Glenwood scored the final eight points of the game to complete the comeback and win their sixth straight game in a 40-37 victory over Atlantic last Tuesday.

“The final eight points we scored were huge,” said Glenwood coach Wendy Lausen said. “We definitely didn’t play our best basketball tonight, but that’s bound to happen especially on the road. I’m proud of the girls for holding their composure, getting good looks at the end and knocking down crucial free throws.”

The Rams (7-4 overall, 5-3 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) trailed much of the game before rallying for the game-winning 8-0 run to the close the game. With the win, Glenwood completes the sweep of the Trojans.
Danika Lucy led Glenwood with 19 points, eight rebounds and six key blocked shots that Lausen said helped turned the tide for the Rams on the defensive end.

“I thought Danika’s defense tonight was one of her best games,” said Glenwood coach Wendy Lausen. “She made Atlantic change a lot of shots and with six blocks, she saved us several times.”

Molly finished with nine points, seven of which came in the final quarter.

Catherine Leonard led Atlantic with 15 points.
