Aquatic Center Admission Rates Disclosed

The city of Glenwood is receiving two grants totaling $15,000 to assist with the start-up of the Glenwood Aquatic Center and city council members heard last Tuesday night how that money will be spent.

They also heard about pricing for the coming season, which is expected to begin about July 1 and last for half a normal season.

Mary Gunderson of the Glenwood Aquatic Center Committee made a presentation regarding the grants. One was for $10,000 from Ash Grove and the other was for $5,000 from Casey’s, which is paying $1,000 per year.

Gunderson said the money will be used to purchase safety equipment, supplies and equipment for the start-up of the concession stand, acquire picnic tables, trash receptacles, chairs, loungers, bathhouse supplies and point of sale equipment. The purchases are expected to consume the grant money. The city’s local option sales tax fund will front the $4,000 from Casey’s that’s expected to arrive over the next four years.
Admission Pricing

The half-season admission prices are expected to be $80 for a family of up to five people, and $5 for each additional member. Single-day admission pricing will be $5 for adults, $3 for students with an ID, $4 for senior citizens, and free for those age 4 and under.

The new facility will be able to host parties after regular hours but pricing for the parties has not yet been determined.
Security System

In a change from earlier plans, the council has opted to have a separate security system for the pool facility. Earlier, there were plans to have the system in combination with the high school. But after talks between the city and school district, it was determined it would be better for the systems to be separate. There will be no change in cost for the security system project.
