Wolverines roll to 53-44 win over Griswold

Emily Williams poured in 20 points to lead East Mills to a 53-44 victory over Griswold in Corner Conference girls basketball Friday.

The Wolverines (3-3 overall, 1-2 in the conference) pulled away thanks to a 20-6 second quarter run a strong defensive effort that limited the Tigers to 27.5 percent shooting (14-of-51) and forced 20 turnovers.

Williams hit 7-of-13 shots for her game-high 20. The sophomore also grabbed seven steals.
Aspen Crouse chipped in 14 points and eight rebounds for East Mills.

Kalainee Teaney and Mikala Pelzer each scored 11 to pace Griswold.

East Mills opened the game on a 30-4 run and cruised to a 60-21 victory over Heartland Christian in Corner Conference girls basketball last Tuesday.

The Wolverines (3-3 overall, 1-2 in the conference), who saw their lead swell to 52-8 by halftime, forced a season-high 37 turnovers and grabbed 29 steals.

“Our defense was aggressive and created a lot of easy buckets for us,” said East Mills coach Blair Holman. “We shared the ball well and everybody got a lot of playing time. Miah Urban continues to fill the box score and has a hand in everything we do.”

East Mills shot 42.9 percent as a team (27-of-63) and a held a 31 to 18 rebounding edge.
Aspen Crouse led three Wolverines in double-figures with 17 points. Emily Williams added 14 points and Mia Urban finished an assist short of a triple-double with 13 points, 11 steals and nine assists.

Sarah Stille led the Eagles with 12 points.
