Verla J. Hofmockel, 83, Glenwood

Verla Joan Hofmockel, 83, of Glenwood, passed away Sept. 19, 2011, at the Glen Haven Home in Glenwood. Graveside services were held Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at the Glenwood Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Glen Haven Home or Glenwood Senior Center. Hertz Funeral Home of Glenwood was in charge of arrangements.
Verla one of four children of Ella Winifred (Newman) and Charles Raymond Seitz, Sr., was born on Aug. 6, 1928, in Glenwood. She grew up in Glenwood and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1945.
Verla and Harold Roll Hofmockel were married Aug. 18, 1946, in Glenwood, where they made their home. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Kathy Lyn, Tara Kay, Charles Lawrence and Jack David.
A life-long resident of Glenwood, Verla was a busy homemaker and mother. She also worked on the square in Glenwood at LaRue Drug and Robinson Jewelry. Verla was employed at the auditor’s office at the Mills County Courthouse for 11 years before her retirement in 1982.
Verla was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Glenwood. She loved sewing and working jumble word and crossword puzzles in the newspaper. Verla especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, and friends.
In August 2007, due to declining health, Verla entered the Glen Haven Home in Glenwood. Verla and Harold were married 65 years when she passed away.
Verla was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charles Seitz, Jr. and Marvin Seitz, Sr.; and sister Lavone Bayes.Verla is survived by her husband Harold Hofmockel of Glenwood; daughters, Kathy McLuen and husband Roy of Seattle, Wash., and Tara Hofmockel of Glenwood; sons, Charles Hofmockel and wife Cindy of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jack Hofmockel and wife Melissa of Logan; six grandchildren, Sonia Ingles and husband Juan, Roy McLuen II, Megan Goldensoph and husband Cory, Blaine Hofmockel, Troy Hofmockel and wife Barbara, and Shannon Hofmockel; nine great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
