Glenwood girls sixth, boys eighth at Mount Michael

Grace Berglund won the girls race to help the Glenwood girls to a sixth place finish while the boys were eighth at the Mount Michael Cross Country Invitational last Tuesday in Elkhorn, Neb.

Berglund ran an 18:28 to win the girls race. Seward’s Haylen Holliday was the runner up with a time of 18:36. Seward did go on to win the girls team title with 26 points.

The Glenwood girls finished with 104 points for sixth.

Glenwood girls coach Marissa Klindt said many of her girls ran their season-best times by over a minute, including the majority of her freshmen. 

“We’re getting faster, stronger, and better with every day, which is so exciting for the rest of the season,” she said. “Our pack running is also getting better, as we had less than a minute spread yet again in our second through fifth runners.”

“Grace is continuing to be dominant. She ran over a minute faster this year on the same course as last year. It was great to see her have someone to run with who could push her so she didn’t have to be alone out there.”

Jada Kanngieser ran a 22:22 to finish 32nd, Autumn Newman was 34th in 22:26 and Karsyn Lundvall 37th in 22:47 to complete the girls scoring.

Norris, Neb. had the top two finishers in the boys race with Owen Muma running a 16:10 for first and teammate Sam Robinson a 16:11 for second to help them the tram title. Seward edged Seward 28 to 27 in the team scores.

Glenwood’s boys squard tallied 156 points for eighth place.

Deagan Stanley paced the Rams with a 25th place finish time of 17:50.
