Short-handed Rams win Bedford Co-ed meet

With part of its team running in Des Moines at the Drake Relays, the Glenwood girls didn’t take the night off.

The short-handed Rams easily out-paced the field in Bedford, racking up 11 gold medals and 238 points en route to the team title. Sidney was the runner up with 126 points.

Glenwood coach Cory Faust was in Des Moines for Drake and didn’t see the Bedford meet but the coach said his team performed well above expectations.

“It’s obvious we had some really good performances and efforts on Friday,” Faust said. “We look forward to seeing what we can accomplish this Thursday at the Conference meet.

The Rams got individual gold medals from Bailey Ostrander in the 100-meters dash, Kate Kaufman in the 800-meters, Audrey Arnold in the 100-meter hurdles, Lauren Becker in the 400-meter hurdles, Sydney Biermann in the shot and the discus and Danielle Hardcastle in the high jump.

Glenwood took home relay top honors in the 4x200, 4x400, 4x800 and shuttle hurdle relays.
    
Glenwood girls first, boys fourth at Co-ed Ram Relays

The Glenwood girls won seven events, including five of seven relays, to run away with the team title at the 25th annual Co-ed Ram Relays last Monday at Ram Memorial Field.

The Rams racked up 154 points to easily out-pace runner up Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln’s 119 points.

The Glenwood girls depth showed throughout the meet. The Rams won the 4x800, 4x200, 4x100, 4x400 and sprint medley relays and placed second in the distance medley and shuttle hurdle relays.

Aubrey McIntyre (800-meters) and Emma Hughes (1,500-meters) both picked up individual gold medals and Jaeda Wilson added a second place showing in the 400-meter dash.

On the boys side, Sergeant Bluff-Luton tallied 141 points for the team title. The Glenwood boys won a single event – the 4x200-meter relay – to finish in fourth place with 67.83 points in the final tune up before last weekend’s Drake Relays.

Glenwood boys coach Mark Starner said he was happy with his team’s fourth place finish considering the “loaded field” and his team ran without Nate Kennedy, who was held out with a hamstring injury.

“It was a very competitive meet that found us less than three points out of third place as a team,” Starner said. “So in that respect, we did rather well. Overall, not bad despite Kennedy’s absence. We had some kids step it up and run rather well.”

Among those running well were the Rams’ 4x200-meter relay team of Joey Saddler, Zach Vondra, Jack Hughes and Kohen Watson. That quartet ran its season-best and topped the field with a time of 1:32.94.

Vondra added a second place finish in the long jump and Watson was third in the 200-meters. Dillon Wiser added a third place medal in the shot put.
