Shopko Management Mum On Future Of Glenwood Store

Hy-Vee is acquiring the Shopko Pharmacy in Glenwood, but management from Wisconsin-based Shopko has declined to answer questions concerning the future of the Shopko Hometown store in Glenwood.

On Friday, HyVee announced the acquisition of 22 Shopko pharmacies in Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin, including the Shopko Pharmacy in Glenwood.

“We are just acquiring their pharmacy prescription book of business,” Hy-Vee media spokesperson Christina Gayman said. “Their existing prescription database is transferring to our existing Hy-Vee location.”

Gayman said current Shopko Pharmacy customers in Glenwood can expect to receive a letter within the next two weeks explaining the transition of existing prescriptions from Shopko to Hy-Vee.

“The transition for that specific location (Glenwood) will happen on Jan. 23,” Gayman said. “That will be the first day that prescriptions will be able to be picked up at the Hy-Vee Clinic Pharmacy.”

Earlier this month, Shopko announced the future closure of 39 stores in 19 states, including three in Iowa – Cherokee, Eldora and Webster City. The Glenwood store was not on the list released Dec. 6.

Patrick Brawdy, manager of the Glenwood Shopko Hometown store, deferred questions concerning the pharmacy and store’s future to Shopko public relations manager Michelle Hansen. Telephone messages to Hansen had not been returned as of press time on Tuesday.

The closure of Shopko Pharmacy will leave the Glenwood community with two pharmacies – Medicap Pharmacy at 1206 S. Locust St. and Hy-Vee Clinic Pharmacy at 409 S. Locust St.
