FOR SALE: Concession Stand, 7 years old, Fixtures Not Included

The Glenwood Community School District is looking to rid itself of its baseball concession stand. The building sits between A.C. Nuckolls Baseball Field and Ram Memorial Football Field and in the path of the district’s planned $3.7 million sports complex renovation.

The district is considering two options for the seven-year-old, roughly 780 square-foot building: demolish it or find a willing partner to move the building to a new, private location.

The board approved a resolution at its regular monthly board meeting last Monday to offer the building up for sale and a potential move off site.

“We had planned to demo it but we heard there might be some interest in the community so we decided to allow them to submit a sealed bid on it and move it if they want it,” said Glenwood Community School District Superintendent Devin Embray.

The concession stand and restroom facility was built in 2011 at a cost of $61,500. Demolition on the existing athletic complex is set to begin this fall. Construction on the new complex is expected to begin this winter and wrap up in August 2019.

If a sealed bid is accepted, the building would need to be moved by Oct. 11. Demolition on site begins on Oct. 12th.
Embray said he is aware of the criticism the district may face with razing a building that is just seven years old but his hope is to temper that by offering the building to an interested party and the planned “recycling” of the building’s contents and fixtures.

“I think that’s why we’re passing the resolution,” Embray said. “If someone can move it so it doesn’t get demo’d, that’d be a good thing.”

The new athletic complex’s plans, which have yet to be finalized, will include a new baseball concession stand, according to Embray.  That new building would then use the former concession stand and restroom facility’s contents and fixtures.
