Ruth W. Cody Wing, 88

February 19, 1922 - January 25, 2011

    Ruth Winifred Cody Wing, age 88, passed away peacefully Jan. 25, 2011, in her own room in her daughter’s home in Spring Hill, Fla.  She was born February 19, 1922, in Mills County, in her parents’ home. She graduated from Glenwood High School in 1939.   Ruth married Lyle H. Wing on June 10, 1956, in Glenwood. They moved to Twin Falls, Idaho, where they resided for 40 years before moving to Fort Pierce, Fla.
    Ruth taught grade school (mostly first grade) in rural Mills County, Pacific Junction, Council Bluffs and Twin Falls, retiring after 50 years. She worked as a substitute teacher for four years in Fort Pierce and volunteered the last nine years at an elementary school in New Port Richey, Fla.
    She is preceded in death by parents James W. Cody and Erma C. Cody, daughter Nancy Marie Wing, husband Lyle H. Wing and sister-in-law, Doris A. Cody.
    Ruth is survived by daughters Rochelle F. Pratte of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Claudia J. Maddox and husband Alan of Spring Hill, brother Richard H. Cody of Council Bluffs, sister-in-law Evelyn Wing of Duluth, Minn., six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, one niece and one nephew. 
    A memorial service will be held Feb. 19, 2011, at 2:30 p.m., at Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs. In lieu of flowers or memorials, it was her wish for donations to go to the nearest elementary school near the person wishing to send memorials.
