Ohio Man Sentenced To Life In Prison For Fatal Shooting

A 27-year-old Ohio man found guilty of first-degree murder in December for the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Kathryn “Katie” Weber-Kuhl outside a Glenwood assisted living facility last September, will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Mark A. Troutman showed no remorse for his actions in a statement given prior to his sentence being announced Monday by District Court Judge James Heckerman.

More than 20 relatives and friends of Ms. Weber-Kuhl walked out of the courtroom at the Mills County Courthouse just as Troutman began making his statement. Troutman claimed he and Ms. Weber-Kuhl had discussed getting engaged and accused her of betraying his trust when she entered into a relationship with a new boyfriend.

In addition to handing down the mandatory life sentence for the Class A felony, Heckerman also ordered Troutman to pay a $150,000 civil penalty. If collected, the civil penalty funds could be awarded to Ms. Weber-Kuhl’s family as restitution.

In January, Troutman’s attorney filed a motion for a new trial, which was subsequently denied by Heckerman. Assistant Mills County Attorney Tyler Loontjer said Troutman has the option of appealing the jury’s verdict and the sentence handed down by Heckerman.
