James Edward Barton, 90

James Edward Barton passed away on Jan. 18, 2026, at his home in Pueblo, Colo. He was 90.

James (Jim) was born in Burlington, Kan., on June 17, 1935, where he grew up with his siblings Eugene, Richard, Juanita and Norma. His parents were Allen and Cora Barton.

After graduating from Burlington High School in 1953, he served in the U.S. Army, mostly in France. He then returned to Kansas where he married Annetta Young and attended the University of Kansas majoring in journalism. Two daughters, Ann and Susan, were born there. 

He moved to Glenwood, Iowa, in 1960 where he worked in journalism and photography, including a period of time at the Opinion-Tribune. While in Glenwood, he married Bonnie Hawk and had two daughters, Jean and Brenda. He later married Virginia Brown and had two daughters, Cathy and Melony. In 1989, he moved to Colorado and lived in Woodland Park, Walsenburg and Pueblo.

Jim is survived by his wife Bonnie, sister Norma, six daughters, 22 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. He loved his family, sports, music, traveling and adventure. He was known for his great sense of humor and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
