Glenwood comeback falls short

Glenwood trimmed a 15 points second half lead to three points in the final minutes but could get no closer in a 62-56 loss to Council Bluffs St. Albert in girls Hawkeye 10 Conference basketball Friday.

The Rams trailed 14-9 after a quarter and by 15 midway through the second quarter before mounting their comeback.

Glenwood’s rally was keyed by its defense but fell short in the fourth quarter after an injury knocked out Elle Scarborough and both Brielle Smith and Brooklyn Taylor fouled out.

“We started pressing in the fourth quarter and played with a sense of urgency that was lacking in the earlier parts of the game,” said Glenwood coach Katy Bowen. “We actually were able to pull close with Elle out with an injury, and Brooklyn and Brielle on the bench having fouled out. I was proud of the way that some of the others stepped up.”

Taylor and sophomore Joslyn Lewis led Glenwood   with 12 a game-high 25 points to lead Council Bluffs Lewis Central to a 66-36 victory over Glenwood in Hawkeye 10 Conference girls basketball last Tuesday in Council Bluffs.

The Rams (1-2 overall, 1-1 in the conference) got down early, trailing 20-10 after a quarter and 38-20 at the half, and never recovered.

“L.C. got out to a quick start that kind of took the air out of us and we were playing catch up the whole game,” said Glenwood coach Katy Bowen. “We need to get better at handling pressure and not letting it disrupt the things we want to do on offense.”
Elle Scarborough led Glenwood with 12 points.

Holt hit 10-of-13 shots, including 2-of-4 from behind the arc, and grabbed two steals for the Titans. Natalie Rigatuso added 15 points.
