Mayor, council member resign
The Glenwood City Council has accepted the resignations of mayor Brian Tackett and city council member (at large) Jessie Lundvall. Both Tackett and Lundvall are moving outside the city limits with their respective families, making them ineligible to hold elected office in Glenwood.
Lundvall’s resignation was effective Sept. 24 and Tackett’s final day as mayor was Sept. 30. The two resignations were accepted by the council at its Sept. 26 meeting. Both positions are up for election on the Nov. 7 municipal election ballot.
City council member Craig Florian will serve as mayor pro-tem until after the November election. The council seat previously occupied by Lundvall will remain vacant until after the election.
Lundvall was not present at the council meeting. Her resignation was presented by Tackett, who also announced his own departure.
“Unanticipated blessings and additions to my family have necessitated a move to our acreage just outside of town earlier than anticipated,” Tackett said. “I have greatly enjoyed being part of Glenwood’s city government these almost last 22 months. I believe we have taken great strides as a city.”
Tackett said he believes the city is more secure financially than when he took office in January 2016.
“The city leaders, as well as numerous citizens, have put an enormous amount of work to ensure that our expenses are in check and our revenue sufficient to cover them. The challenge now will be to adequately anticipate and plan for the maintenance and improvement of Glenwood going forward. Now is the time to be proactive, not reactive.”
Tackett thanked council members and city staff for their work during his tenure and encouraged Glenwood residents to participate in local government.
“Glenwood has many amazing people that can, and do, contribute to the success of the city. Still, there needs to be more,” he said.
