Outdoor swimming returning to Glenwood

Beginning Friday, Glenwood residents will have an outdoor swimming facility to call their own for the first time in a decade.

A grand opening ceremony for the Glenwood Aquatic Center is scheduled for Friday, July 8, at 12:30 p.m. The facility is expected to be up and running at 1 p.m.

The $5 million facility, located on east end of town adjacent to the Glenwood Community High School auxiliary gymnasium, is owned by the city, but will be managed by staff from the Mills County YMCA. Glenwood City Clerk Angie Winquist said Rhett Turner will serve as the pool manager and Alexis Unger will be the pool director.
Last week, the Glenwood City Council approved rates for seasonal passes and daily admission rates for the aquatic center’s abbreviated 2016 swim season.

Season family passes (for up to six people) are $80 with a $5 fee for each additional person on the pass. The cost of a season pass for a single person is $40. Season passes are currently being sold at Glenwood City Hall and will be available at the aquatic center during normal operational hours (1-8 p.m. daily).

Single-day admission rates are $5 for adults (age 18 and older), $4 for senior citizens (age 65 and older) and $3 for students (age 22 or younger). Children under the age of 4 will be admitted free of charge.
All children ages 8 and under must be accompanied to the aquatic center by an adult.

The Glenwood Aquatic Center will be available for private party rentals from 8-9:30 p.m. with the following rates being charged based on the number of guests attending: $200 (1-25 guests), $250 (26-50 guests) and $300 (over 50 guests). Private party goers will be allowed to bring in food and non-alcoholic beverages.

The Glenwood Aquatic Center is not equipped with lockers or storage areas, so pool patrons are encouraged to bring along a bag or backpack for placement of their personal belongings. Concession items will be available for purchase at the aquatic center.
