Rams 0-4 at Ankeny tournament

The Glenwood softball team dropped four games last weekend at the Ankeny Softball Invitational.

The Rams (11-8 overall, 9-6 in the conference) struggled to put runs on the board in the tournament that featured stiff competition but head coach Tom Horton thinks the competition can help his team heading into the post-season.

“It was a tough weekend, but the team got a lot of good opportunities to see good pitching and good competition,” said Glenwood coach Tom Horton. “Although we still took two losses on Saturday the team played really well.  They showed some true grit on the day.”

The Rams opened play Friday with a pair of losses to Sioux City Heelan 8-3 and the host Hawkettes 15-5. Lyndie Van Ness took the loss in game one, allowing four hits and an earned run before giving way to reliever Baily Rumery.

In game two, the Rams had more success at the plate, with Erin Stanley recording her second home run of the season, but resulting in a 15-5 loss. Rumery was credited with the loss in game two.

On Saturday, an energized Glenwood squad took state ranked Pella to extra innings before falling 8-7 in eight innings. Mackenzie Richter drove in three runs and Van Ness and Stanley two each to lead Glenwood. Rumery recorded the game three loss after pitching the final five innings after coming in relief of Van Ness.

Glenwood dropped their capper to Ankeny Centennial 7-1. Jacy Embray recorded the loss going the distance, scattering eight hits and four earned runs.

Rams split with Atlantic

After dropping a 3-1 decision to Atlantic, Glenwood bounced back for a convincing 11-5 victory in the nightcap to split a pair of key Hawkeye 10 Conference softball games last Thursday.

The Rams (15-10 overall, 11-7 in Hawkeye 10 Conference) battled the conference leading  Trojans (24-6 overall, 11-2 in the conference) in game one, allowing just one earned run in a game that came down to the final at-bats.

In game two, Glenwood bats heated up with a home run and three RBIs each from Myranda Starner and Jacy Embray and a two-run double by Erin Stanley.

Embray earned the win in the circle, scattering four hits and three earned runs. Bailey Rumery came on to pitch the final four innings to earn the save.

“The team had a good day at the field,” said Glenwood coach Tom Horton. “I was pleased with their comeback efforts in the first and was very pleased with their control and quality at bats in the second game.  Our pitching staff had a pretty good day as well.  All three pitchers did well on getting the balls the defense needed to make plays.”

Clarinda 4

Glenwood completed the season-sweep of Clarinda with a 7-4 victory last Tuesday in Hawkeye 10 Conference softball.

Lyndie Van Ness earned a complete-game victory in the circle after scattering three hits and two earned runs. The junior also helped her own cause at the plate driving in two runs.

Rams sweep Red Oak

Glenwood pounded 14 extra-base hits in a pair of victories over Red Oak in Hawkeye 10 Conference softball last Monday.

The Rams needed just three innings to down the Tigers 15-0 in game one and then came back to win the capper, 15-4 in five innings.

“The team’s approach at the plate our last couple of games has been good,” said Glenwood coach Tom Horton. “They are seeing the ball well right now.”

In game one, the Rams’ Jacy Embray blasted a home run and two doubles to drive in five runs. Sara Ingoldsby doubles, triples and drove in a run.

Lyndie Van Ness scattered five hits for the win in the circle.

Game two was a bit closer early on for the Rams as the Tigers jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first inning, thanks to RBI hits by Hailey Fada, Shelbie Perez and Maddie Wendt. The Rams re-took the lead in the third inning and continued to pile on in the following innings. Glenwood scored nine runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run home run by Embray,  to take a 15-3 lead.

Embray earned the game two win, scattering six hits and fanning two.

Erin Stanley recorded her first career home run and drove in three runs in the win.
Haley Palmer tripled to drive in three runs and Van Ness drove in two runs on a triple of her own.

Rams drop
two at Treynor

Glenwood fielding miscues led to a combined 12 unearned runs as the Rams dropped a pair of games at the Treynor Softball Invitational June 20.

“Unfortunately, we really struggled on defense today,” said Glenwood coach Tom Horton.

Glenwood dropped a decision to Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln 6-0 and then was bested by the host Cardinals 13-4.

Jacy Embray was credited with the game one loss after scattering four hits and one earned run in four innings.

Lyndie Van Ness took the loss to Treynor, allowing six earned runs.

C.B. Thomas Jefferson 2, 3 innings

The Glenwood softball team downed Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson 14-2 in three innings June 19.

Lyndie Van Ness scattered three hits and two earned runs while fanning five in the victory.

At the plate, Jacy Embray drove in four runs and Ashley Hirt and Molly Dean drove in two more.

Cyclones sweep Rams

Harlan smacked a combined 22 hits in a pair of Hawkeye 10 Conference victories over Glenwood June 18.

The state rated Cyclones took game one 5-3 before pulling out an 11-10 victory in the nightcap.

Glenwood struggled defensively on the night with nine of the Cyclones’ 16 runs coming unearned.

“Unfortunately, the story of the night was too many fielding errors,” said Glenwood coach Tom Horton. “We had plenty of opportunities to put both games away and struggled to make the routine plays.”

Abbie Schultz and Myranda Starner each had two hits in the game one loss. Starner tripled and drove in two runs.

Lyndie Van Ness was credited with the loss in the circle in game one.

In game two, Harlan plated 10 runs in the third inning and led 11-6 after four before the Rams nearly rallied, coming up a run short of sending the game into extra innings in the seventh.

Starner was 3-for-4 in game two with three RBIs and two stolen bases.
Bailey Rumery took the game two loss in the circle. The sophomore allowed eight hits and four earned runs.

Glenwood 1

Haylee LeMaster’s limited Glenwood to four hits and struck out six as Creston downed the Rams 7-1 in Hawkeye 10 Conference softball last June 16.

Creston blew open a 1-0 game with two runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to pull away.

Glenwood recorded four hits in the loss, just one going for extra bases.

“I’d like to give create to LeMaster for executing her game plan very well,” said Glenwood coach Tom Horton.  “She was able to get ahead in the counts and then move to her rise ball.  She did a great job of keeping our hitters off balance.”

Jacy Embray smacked her fourth home run of the season to score Glenwood’s lone run.
