Big seventh inning lifts Glenwood to win

After allowing Atlantic to take a 3-0 lead with a big third inning, Glenwood bounced back to plate seven in the top of the fourth and cruise to a 9-3 victory in Hawkeye 10 Conference baseball Friday night.

The Rams (4-2 overall, 3-2 in the conference) smacked 11 hits in the win. Aaron Bertini led the way with a 3-for-4 night and drove in two runs. Wyatt Schulz added two hits and drove in a run while Kyle Murtfeld singled to drive in two more runs of his own.

Bertini came on in relief of starter Zak Mumm and did not allow a hit in 4 2/3 innings of work to earn his first varsity win. The junior struck out five and walked one.

Rams drop two at Kuemper Catholic

The Glenwood baseball team dropped a pair of one-run games at Kuemper Catholic in a Hawkeye 10 Conference baseball double-header Thursday.

The Rams started both games strong, opening the first inning of each game with 2-0 and 3-0 leads, respectively, but could hold on to neither as the Knights rallied to win each game.

In game one, Wyatt Schulz had a valiant pitching effort, scattering seven hits and three earned runs while striking out five in the complete game.

Dru Little was just as strong for the Rams on the mound in game two. The senior lefty took a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh before getting into trouble. The Knights scored two runs in the frame to pull out the win.

Little allowed five hits, four earned runs and struck out two in the loss.

At the plate, Little recorded two hits and drove in three runs in the double-header.

Glenwood 11,
Creston 1

Glenwood scored all 11 of its runs in the fourth and fifth innings and cruised to an 11-1 victory over Creston in Hawkeye 10 Conference baseball last Monday.

Wyatt Schulz, Cole Loeffelbein and Nathan Nebel each drove in two runs in the win. Loeffelbein was 3-for-4 with a single, double and a triple.

In all, Glenwood pounded out 14 hits.

Zak Mumm earned the win on the mound to improve to 2-0 on the season. The senior right-hander scattered two hits and struck out six in five innings of work.
