Mills, Fremont County towns on Day 1 route for RAGBRAI riders

For the first time in the 44-year history of RAGBRAI (Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa), the city of Malvern will serve as a pass-through town.

The route for Day 1 of the ride, Sunday, July 24, was announced over the weekend. Malvern, Tabor, Randolph and Imogene are on the map for riders making their way from Glenwood to Shenandoah on the first day of their weeklong trek across southern Iowa.
Bicyclists will take the same route out of Glenwood they did in 2011, by heading north and east from the high school onto county road L45. From there, they’ll head east on Gaston Ave. to Highway 242, where the route turns south to Highway 34.

Once on Highway 34, the route goes east to county Highway 41 (L63). Riders will turn south and enter Malvern as they pass by East Mills High School. They’ll make their way through town and exit past the golf course on the south end of the city. From there, it’s onto to county road H40 (Noyes Ave.) for a westward jaunt to Highway 275. Once on 275, the route turns south again, going through Tabor.
A short distance past Tabor, the route heads east on Fremont County road J18 into Randolph. After Randolph, riders will have the option of taking a gravel loop into Imogene or continuing south on L68 (330th Ave.) The final leg of Day 1 is an eastward ride on Fremont County road J32 to Shenandoah.
