Glenwood softball 2-1 at Atlantic Tournament

The Glenwood softball team finished 2-1 at the Atlantic Invitational Saturday.

The Rams (8-3 overall, 4-2 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference) shutout Carroll 11-0 in the opener before dropping a 5-1 decision to Panora in game two. Glenwood bounced back to defeat Audubon 14-0 in the capper.

The host Trojans won the tournament compiling a record of 3-0.

Jacy Embray recorded the two wins for the Rams in the circle and Mackenzie Richter took the loss.

“I was pleased with our pitching staff these last six games,” said Glenwood coach Tom Horton.  “All three of them (Jacy Embray, Lyndie VanNess and Mackenzie Richter) have done a great job in the circle.”

The Rams’ Sara Ingoldsby, who went 5-for-9 on the day with two RBIs and two runs scored, was named to the all-tournament team.

Underwood 1

Glenwood plated five runs in the first inning and never looked back in a 11-1, five-inning victory over Underwood Friday.

Lyndie Van Ness led the Ram offense with her first home run of the season and drove in four runs while going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Sara Ingoldsby and Molly Dean each added two hits. Myranda Starner tripled and drove in two runs.
Van Ness recorded the win in the circle.

Rams sweep Kuemper

Jacy Embray and Mackenzie Richter each recorded complete-game wins for Glenwood in a Hawkeye 10 Conference softball sweep of Kuemper Catholic Thursday.

The Rams (4-2 overall, 2-2 in the conference) was dominant at times in the circle in the game one 10-5 win and helped her own cause smacking a grand slam and driving in five runs in a 3-for-5 night.

In game two, Richter, Lyndie Van Ness and Bailey Rumery each drove in two runs in an 11-7 victory.

“The whole team did a great job at the plate,” said Glenwood coach Tom Horton. “The team was really aggressive on the base in this game getting six stolen bases.”

Creston’s Haylee LeMasters struck out eight and shutout Glenwood for the first time this season in 5-0 Hawkeye 10 Conference softball victory last Monday.

The Rams adjusted against the hard throwing LeMaster as the game went on – six of Glenwood’s strikeouts came in the first three innings – but they could never put together a rally.

“LeMasters did a good job to start the game for Creston,” said Glenwood coach Tom Horton. “However, our girls did a great job of making adjustments at the plate and got their hits in.  We finished with eight hits for the game.  Unfortunately, we couldn’t string our hits together and we stranded eight runners.”

Jacy Embray took the loss in the circle and went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Lyndie Van Ness added two hits.
