Glenwood Homecoming This Weekend
More than a dozen class reunion celebrations are expected to take place this weekend during the annual Glenwood Homecoming celebration.
The reunions, Friday afternoon parade, Friday night football game and Saturday night coronation are among the highlights of the community-wide celebration that will bring hundreds of visitors to Glenwood.
Glenwood Band Parents are coordinating the 2014 Homecoming Parade Friday at 1:30 p.m. The parade theme is ”Video Games.”
All parade participants must preregister. They can do so by contacting Lori McGoldrick at 527-9973 or online at glenwoodhomecomingparade@gmail.com. Registration will also take place at the American Legion Club on Thursday, Sept. 25, from 6-8 p.m. and Friday Sept. 26, 8-10 a.m. Floats can be registered or parade numbers picked up at one of these times.
Prizes are given to first, second and third-place place winners in the following judged categories: Costumed Children/Decorated Bicycles/Pets; K-1; 2-3; 4-5-6; 7-12 grades; School/Youth Clubs; Civic; Specialties; Religious; Decorated Commercial; and Livestock. Prize money can be picked up at Kally’s.
Reserved parking passes for disabled and senior citizens will be available from Warren’s Jewelry. Parking spaces are limited so discretion is requested from those applying. Parking will begin at 11:30 a.m. and will start at the northeast corner of the square going west. Cars without reserved parking passes on the parade route after 11:30 a.m. will be towed at the owner’s expense.
There is no parking on Vine Street going north and First Street going east from the square. These streets are used for parade line up. All vehicles will be towed from line up areas.
The parade committee has stated that inappropriate behavior, open containers and items thrown from floats will not be tolerated and may result with ejection from the parade route. Items and candy may be handed out along the curb. Anyone needing assistance should look for people wearing “Parade Official” buttons.

Because of the parade and limited parking on the square Friday, residents doing business at the Mills County Courthouse are advised to come before 11:30. The courthouse will be closed and locked at 1 p.m. and won’t reopen until after the parade.
Friday night’s homecoming football game against Creston kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at Ram Memorial Field.
Coronation will take place at Glenwood Community High School Saturday at 8 p.m. with the school’s homecoming dance to follow.
Candidates for homecoming queen are Danni Finn, Maggie Finnegan and Sara Gutschenritter. King candidates are Jon Van Scoy, Wyatt Schulz and Jack Groves.
