Glenwood harriers second, third at AL
The Glenwood girls placed second and the boys were third at the 48th Annual Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln Cross Country Meet at Iowa Western Community College Saturday.
The Glenwood girls finished 11 points behind first place Denison.
“We have the utmost respect for Denison who won the meet and to be able to edge out some great competition like for A.L., Southeast Polk and Shenandoah was incredible,” said Glenwood coach Jeff Janssen. “While very pleased with all the performances, including our second place JV team, we know we have a lot more work to do to reach our goals for the season.”
The Monarchs won top individual honors with Reagan Anderson taking first place and the Rams’ Aubrey McIntyre finishing a close second.
“Once again, I was very pleased with our performances,” Janssen said. “While the course is much different than in years past, the way our girls competed and the times we ran were indicative of the hard work and dedication they all have shown the past month and all summer.”
McIntyre’s time of 19:57.81 was a new school and personal record.
The Rams’ Lacey Jackson, who placed 11th with a time of 21:04.06, had her best cross country race of her career, according to Janssen.
Haley Palmer, in her first career varsity cross country meet, placed 17th to make three Rams in the top 20.
The Glenwood boys placed third in the team standings, 14 points behind second place Council Bluffs Lewis Central. Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson won top team honors with 69 points. The Yellowjackets’ McGwire Midkiff was the individual champion with a time of 16:52.56.
The Rams’ Parson Covington had his top individual showing of the year, placed fifth with a time 17:32.75. Sam McIntyre was 10th with a time of 18:00.96 and Mason Parks’ 12th (18:11.52) to give Glenwood three runners in the top 12.
Andrew Mullennax (23rd) and Richard Rounds (36th) to complete the Ram place winners.
