East Mills has ‘tough day’ at Clarinda tourney
The East Mills volleyball team went 0-4 at the Clarinda Tournament on Saturday.
The Wolverines dropped decisions to the host Cardinals 21-16, 21-15, to Treynor 24-22, 21-11, to Shenandoah 21-17, 21-11 and to Bedford 25-18, 26-24
“Overall, this was a tough day in terms of wins/losses, but at times we played very well against some strong competition,” said East Mills coach Connie Blank. “We came out flat against Clarinda and struggled with serve/receive but served 34-for-34 with 100 percent for the match.”
In the Wolverines’ first set against Treynor, East Mills was up 20-16 and lost 22-24.
“We gave up too many unearned points with missed serves and hitting errors and just didn’t finish.
In the Shenandoah match we made a run to get back into the first set and fell short,” Blank said.
In the Bedford match, Blank said her team struggled with serving in the first set, but came storming back in the second set.
“We need to find the push to finish and continue to improve our communication,” Blank said.
Jessie Doyle recorded 22 kills and Stephanie Frink 15 to lead East Mills.
