David W. Edie, 57, Avoca
David Wayne Edie, age 57, of Avoca, formerly of Malvern, died at his home in Avoca on June 13, 2009. Memorial services were held Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home in Malvern, with Pastor Gordon Scott of Villisca United Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in the Malvern Cemetery.
One of five sons of Hazel Marie (Clark) Edie and Edwin Dale Edie, he was born in Council Bluffs, on August 11, 1951. He grew up in Malvern and attended high school through the 11th grade. Following school, he worked as a newspaper pressman in the towns of Red Oak; Biloxi, Miss.; Westminster, Md. and eventually in Omaha.
He and Loretta Faye Erichsen of Red Oak were united in marriage and blessed with two children, William Dale and Kristy Ann. They made their home in Red Oak where Mr. Edie worked for the Red Oak Express. The couple later divorced. While living in Westminster, Md., he married Cynthia Joann Zepp and they were blessed with one son, James David Edie. The family moved to Malvern and Mr. Edie was employed as a pressman at the Omaha World Herald Newspaper. The couple later divorced and he moved to an acreage north of Malvern, later to Glenwood and then to Avoca.
Mr. Edie was a member of the Graphic Communications International Union and the Local M543. His enjoyments included taxidermy, hunting, and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He was working for the Omaha World-Herald where he was a 15-year veteran pressman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel and Ed Edie and brother, Mark Edie. He is survived by his children, William Edie and wife Leah of Atlantic; Kristy Walker and husband Mike of Walnut; and James Edie and wife Brittany of Westminster, Md.; brothers, Danny Edie of Shenandoah; John Edie of St. Louis, Mo.; and Robert Edie of Independence, Mo.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
A memorial fund has been established. Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home of Malvern in charge of arrangements.
