Crouch elected to fifth term in Mills County Supervisors race

Incumbent Mills County Supervisor Richard Crouch has defeated Libertarian challenger Jay Anderson in Tuesday’s general election.

The supervisor seat, the only contested race in the county courthouse this year, went to Crouch by a 4,423-1,484 margin.

For Crouch the term is his fifth on the three-member board.

In Mills County’s other courthouse positions, Republican incumbents all retained their posts in unopposed races. County attorney Naeda Elliott, county treasurer Jill Ford and county recorder Lisa Tallman all were re-elected to another term.

On the state level, District 23 State Representative David Sieck, a Republican, won his re-election bid over Democratic challenger Chuck Larson. Sieck won the district that includes all of Fremont County and parts of Montgomery County. In Mills county, Sieck garnered 4,138 votes to Larson’s 2,041.

In the U.S. House of Representatives District 3 race, Democratic challenger Cindy Axne defeated Republican incumbent David Young. Young, who won the 16-county district by 14 points in 2016, lost in the district but did win Mills County 3,915-2,121.

In the Iowa governor’s race, incumbent Kim Reynolds won Mills county 3,917-2,165 over Democratic challenger Fred Hubbell but the race remained undecided statewide as of publication.

In all, more than 6,300 Mills county residents cast a ballot in Tuesday’s general election, nearly half coming via early or absentee ballots, according to Mills County Auditor Carol Robertson.

The 60.8 percent voter turnout is the highest Robertson has seen in her tenure.

“Voter turnout was amazing,” she said at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. “We’ve never had this high of turnout. Especially in absentee (ballots). We had over 3,000. I’ve never seen that many in any election.”
