County’s local option sales tax dollars to fund surfacing of Lake Park road

Visitors to Glenwood Lake Park will soon have a hard-surface road to drive on thanks to local option sales tax (LOST) dollars from the Mills County Board Supervisors.

Mills County Auditor Carol Robertson said the county has agreed to designate $10,000 of its local option sales tax revenue earmarked for community betterment projects to the Glenwood Park Board and city of Glenwood for the paving of the park’s main road with a “chip and seal” surface. The first $5,000 will come from the 2016-2017 fiscal year budget, which ends on June 30, and the remaining $5,000 will come from the 2017-2018 budget.

Robertson said communities across the county are being encouraged to request the local option sales tax funds for special projects. Robertson noted that over the years, the county has allotted LOST revenue for a variety of projects throughout the county that meet the definition of community betterment. The list of projects include new books for the Emerson Public Library ($1500), renovation of the Malvern Community Building ($9000), construction of the Charles E. and Florence M. Lakin Community Center in Malvern ($30,000), expansion and parking for the Mills County Engineer’s Building ($40,000), Mineola Clean-up Day ($387), Glenwood Area Chamber of Commerce Flowers On The Square project ($504) and the proposed Glen Haven Village project ($5000).
