Big second inning lifts Knights to win

Fremont-Mills broke open a scoreless game with eight runs in the second inning and cruised to a 12-7 victory over East Mills in Corner Conference baseball in Malvern Friday.

The Knights, who finished with eight hits, took advantage of 14 walks by a trio of Wolverine pitchers in the win. F-M led 9-0 before East Mills was able to plate three runs in the bottom of the third. They added four more in the fourth but could get no closer.

Dylan Chambers allowed three hits, one earned run and struck out nine to pick up the victory on the hill for the Knights. The junior also helped his own cause by driving in two runs, drawing two walks and scoring a run.

Andrew Hontz and Seth Malcom led F-M with two hits each. Hontz doubled and drove in two runs. Nate Laughlin added a double and two RBIs.

Nic Duysen took the loss on the mound after allowing five hits and eight earned runs.

The Wolverines were led by Dylan Schroeder and Jack Anderson with two hits each.

Griswold 7,
East Mills 6

Griswold took a 4-0 lead after the first inning and held on late in a 7-6 victory over East Mills in boys non-conference baseball last Wednesday.

The Tigers’ lead swelled to a 7-0 after four innings until the Wolverines (2-5)  were finally able to string together some offense. But after plating three runs each in the fifth and sixth innings, they could get no closer.

Derek Mueller and Brendon Atkinson had two hits and drove in two runs each.

Ryan Carlton recorded the win on the mound, allowing eight hits and one earned run while striking out seven in five innings.

CAM 13,
Fremont-Mills 3

CAM’s Mitchell Williamson smacked a solo home run and earned the win on the hill in a 13-3 victory over Fremont-Mills in Anita last Tuesday.

Williamson allowed one hit and two earned runs in 3 1/3 innings of work to in the win.

James Switzer and Andrew Hontz recorded the two hits for Fremont-Mills. Hontz doubled and drove in a run.
Isaac Bower had three hits and Nick Holste and Jacob Holste added two hits each.

Stanton 12,
East Mills 2

Stanton starter Donnie Weis limited East Mills to just six hits and struck out eight in a 12-2 Corner Conference baseball victory last Monday in Malvern.

Weis allowed just one extra-base hit, did not allow an earned run and walked two in the win.

Dylan Schroeder took the loss on the hill for the Wolverines. The senior righty gave up eight hits and seven runs (three earned) while fanning four.

Anthony Rainey led East Mills with two hits while Schroeder, Riley Story, Jackson Wray and Raymond Roberson added a hit each.

Stanton’s Tanner Anderson went 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Fremont-Mills 13,
Whiting 3, 5 innings

The Fremont-Mills baseball team built an 11-0 lead after three innings and cruised to a 13-3 victory over Whiting in a non-conference game in Tabor last Monday.

The Knights were led at the plate by Dylan Chamber’s three hits and three runs scored.

James Switzer allowed three hits and three runs on the mound to earn the win.
