Barry Eugene Stamper, age 62, of Glenwood

Barry Eugene Stamper, age 62, of Glenwood, died Nov. 2, 2009, at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha. Funeral services were held at the Glenwood Resource Center Auditorium on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009. Officiating was Rev. Mike Stevens of the United Methodist Church. Interment was in the Glenwood Resource Center Cemetery.

    He was born in Des Moines on Aug. 5, 1947, and was soon placed in the Annie Wittenmeyer Home in Davenport.  He grew up in Glenwood, moving to the State Hospital School on Nov. 3, 1950. He was a great kid, kind hearted and enjoyed drawing and writing. 

    In 1968, he moved to Burlington, where he worked in different work centers.  He lived in several Iowa communities before being permanently placed at the Glenwood Resource Center on Jan. 30, 1998.  He loved music and was a great dancer.  He always had pen and paper.  He enjoyed reading magazines and was meticulous about copying the magazine text into his own notebooks. Mr. Stamper liked interacting with all the staff and especially enjoyed spending time with his guardian, Jessica Burdic and her family.

    He is survived by his guardian Jessica Burdic and husband Jay of Malvern; his many friends and staff at the Glenwood Resource Center.

    Hertz Funeral Home of Glenwood was in charge of arrangements.
