30-4 second quarter run carries Rams to best start in school history
Glenwood outscored Kuemper Catholic 30-4 in the second quarter to pull away in a 76-36 victory in girls Hawkeye 10 Conference basketball Thursday in Glenwood.
The Rams 13-0 is the best start in school history, eclipsing the 2010-2011 team that open the season 11-0.
Against Harlan, the Rams led 19-10 after a quarter but head coach Brian Rasmussen said his team looked flat the first eight minutes.
The more than made up for that in the second frame.
Glenwood out-scored Kuemper 30-4 over the next eight minutes and took a commanding 49-14 lead into halftime.
“I felt like we weren’t that ready to play right away, and we got a little complacent to start with but once we got going and realized we needed to compete every possession, the second quarter went really well. It set the tempo for the second half and we got a lot of kids in the game.”
Jenna Hopp and Madison Camden each hit three three-pointer apiece and scored 15 points to lead Glenwood. For the game the Rams hit 13-of-33 three-pointers and assisted on 20 of the 27 made field goals.

Harlan 45
Elle Scarborough scored 20 points to lead four players in double-figures and the Glenwood girls notched their 12th straight win to open the season with an 81-45 dismantling of Harlan last Tuesday in a non-conference road tilt.
The Rams led 30-22 at the half but the Cyclones were within a missed layup of taking the lead in the third quarter before Glenwood responded with a 49-14 the rest of the way to secure the victory.
“We did some different things on defense and gave them some different looks that created some turnovers,” said Glenwood coach Brian Rasmussen. “Our best offense was points off turnovers. That picked up our tempo on offense and things kept clicking from there.”
Glenwood shot better than 50 percent from the field (31-of-61), hit 10 three-pointers and assisted on 22 of their 31 made field goals.
Scarborough connected on 9-of-13 shots for her team-high 20.
Madison Camden added 17 points and Jenna Hopp chipped in 12 and Coryl Matheny 11. Brynlee Arnold picked up nine points and eight rebounds.
Jocelyn Cheek scored 15 points to lead Harlan.
