Yes, that was an earthquake you felt
If you thought your bed was swaying, the mirror was moving or the ceiling fan was shaking Saturday morning, it wasn’t a dream. It was an earthquake.
The effects of a 5.6 magnitude earthquake near Pawnee, Okla., shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday were felt as far away as Iowa and Nebraska to the north and Arizona to the west.
“It was a tremor or cascade effect,” Mills County Emergency Management Director Larry Hurst said. “If you were on social media, a lot of people in Mills County were saying their chandeliers were swaying or the their lights were shaking. Some people thought their furniture was moving.”
Hurst said to his knowledge, there’s been no reports of structural or property damage in western Iowa as a result of the earthquake.
“It was certainly an interesting event,” Hurst said. “The communications center received four or five calls about it from concerned citizens.”
