Wolverines down Villisca on diamond
Charlie Ruff came on in relief of starter Jagger Bohrer to 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for the East Mills baseball team in a 6-4 win over Villisca on Friday.
Ruff (3-1) fanned five, walked one and allowed just one hit in the win.
The Wolverines (6-4 overall) were led at the plate by Morgan Dalton and Austin Sommer with two hits each. Dalton also drove in two runs.

David Howell’s fine defensive play at first base sealed a 10-9 win for East Mills over Stanton last Tuesday.
With a Viking runner on second in the bottom of the ninth, Howell snagged a sharply hit ball at first base and just beat the Stanton runner to the bag.
“No one covered (first base), so it was a foot race to the bag and David beat him by a half a step,” said East Mills coach Cole Buchholz. “A great high school game to watch.”
Charlie Ruff got the win tossing 5 1/3 innings and allow seven runs, five earned and striking out seven. Jagger Bohrer pitched the final 1 2/3 innings to pick up the save.
“We made two early errors in the first inning and ran up Charlie’s pitch count,” said Buchholz. “After that we settled down as a team and played well. I was most pleased with our focus tonight. We need to continue to do a better job communicating.”
Ruff also helped himself on the mound by hitting a three run home run in the fourth. Ruff leads the Corner Conference with four home runs.
Draven Sayers went 1-for 3 with a walk and two RBIs.
Jacob Schafer added two hits, an RBI and a stolen base.
West Harrison 21,
East Mills 2
East Mills dropped a 21-2 decision to West Harrison on June 18 at Missouri Valley.
“We ran out of pitchers,” said East Mills coach Cole Buchholz.
Austin Sommerla was charged with the loss for the Wolverines after allowing 11 runs, 10 earned, in 1 1/3 innings.
As a team East Mills gave up 13 walks and 19 earned runs.
“Anytime you walk guys bad things happen,” said Buchholz.
Offensively Dalton Morgan doubled and drove in a run for East Mills.
