Supervisors appoint Ford to county treasurer’s post

A familiar face at the county courthouse has been appointed to the position of Mills County Treasurer.

Jill Ford was administered her oath of office last week after her appointment was formally approved by the Mills County Board of Supervisors. She replaces Becky Killpack, who resigned earlier this year to take a position in the Pottawattamie County Treasurer’s Office.

Ford, a Malvern native and eight-year employee at the county treasurer’s office, was serving as a tax deputy at the time of her appointment. She also has experience working in the driver’s license department.

“We talked about it and it made the most sense for me (to move into the treasurer’s position),” Ford said.

Ford said she will be on the Republican Party ballot as a candidate for county treasurer in the June primary election.

The county treasurer’s office has multiple responsibilities, including the collection of property taxes, vehicle licensing and registration and the issuance of driver’s licenses.

Melinda Lucy, a deputy in the auto department, is taking over Ford’s former duties as tax deputy. Diann Bingham works in the motor vehicle department and Mike Flack is the driver’s license clerk. A replacement for the vacancy in the motor vehicle department will be hired.

“Customer service is our main goal,” Ford said.

Staff training will also be a priority for the office, Ford added.
