Rams drop two in ‘Battle of the Bluffs’

Glenwood dropped a pair of games in the Battle of the Bluffs at the Glenwood Activities Complex Saturday.

The Rams (3-13 overall, 2-8 in the conference) dropped their opener to ADM 10-3 and then fell 11-2 to Sergeant Bluff-Luton in the capper.

For the day, Glenwood’s pitcher walked 16 and the defense had four errors.

“Defense and pitching were issues for us,” said Glenwood coach Dave Clark. “We’ve kind of figured out who our four (starting) pitchers are now, we just have to figured out who can come in and relieve them and throw strikes. We’re giving up too many walks and every once in a while we’ll bumble a ball or drop one in the outfield so we’re not playing very complimentary baseball right now.”

Ben Grife picked up the game one win tossing five innings and allowing four hits and an earned run while striking out five.

Ryan Turner led the Rams with two hits and Brennan Anderson added a double and drove in two runs in the opener.

In game two, Braxton Van Meter tossed a complete game, allowing four hits and fanning five to earn the win.

Benn Christiansen took the game one loss while Trey Williamson took the loss for the Rams in game two. Christiansen gave up four hits and three runs in three innings of work and Williams allowed three hits and four earned runs.

Korbin Pelzer had two hits and Christiansen, Ryan Turner, Ben Carlo and Myles Stanton each added hits.

Glenwood 15,
Atlantic 5

Glenwood smacked 13 hits and scored a season-high in runs in a 15-5 win over Atlantic Thursday in Hawkeye 10 Conference baseball.

Ben Carlo led the Ram attack with a 4-for-5 night. The sophomore had two doubles, drove in three runs and scored two runs. Pierce Dalton, Korbin Pelzer, Ryan Turner and Benn Christiansen added two hits apiece. Dalton and Christiansen each drove in two runs.

“We got into the opposition position we’re been in and their pitchers were having trouble throwing strikes and when the did throw them over our guys were capitalizing on it,” said Glenwood coach Dave Clark. “We were able to get a lead and run a little bit and put some pressure on them.”

The Rams drew 10 walks and stole five bases in the win.

Myles Stanton picked up the win in the on the hill. The junior scattered six hits and two earned runs while striking out seven.

“He’s really come along,” Clark said. “He was on our radar and we weren’t sure if he could throw enough strikes and keep his arm healthy and he’s got the opportunities and proved it so we found a pretty good third guy.”

Hudson McLaren took the loss for the Trojans, allowing two hits and five earned runs.

Kale Jensen had three hits, and Zayden Parker had two hits and drove in a run for Atlantic.

Glenwood 9,
Sioux City West 6

Charlie Hutchcraft drove in three runs at the plate and picked up the win on the hill for Glenwood in a 9-6 win over Sioux City West last Wednesday.

Hutchcraft scattered eight hits and five earned runs while striking out four in six innings of work. He also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and a run scored.

Korbin Pelzer and Ben Carlo both added two hits and drove in two runs for Glenwood.

Junior Lafrenz took the loss for the Wolverines, allowing five hits and four earned runs.

Clarinda 8,
Glenwood 3

Clarinda plated five runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull away from Glenwood in an 8-3 Hawkeye 10 Conference baseball victory last Tuesday.

Kort Neal tossed a complete game, allowing eight hits and two earned runs with eight strikeouts in the win.

Nolan Wagoner and Ryan Wagoner had two hits each and combined to drive in six runs.

Korbin Pelzer took the loss on the mound after allowing eight hits and three earned runs in 4 2/3 innings.

Benn Christiansen had two hits and drove in a run to lead the Rams at the plate.

Cyclones take
pair from Rams

Harlan picked up a pair of wins over Glenwood in a Hawkeye 10 Conference baseball double-header in Glenwood last Monday.

The Cyclones jumped out to a 7-0 first inning lead on their to the way to a 13-0 win in the opener then came back to win game two, 5-2.

Gavin Eck was dominant on the mound in the opener, scattering two hits and fanning three without a walk in the five-inning victory.

Foxx Argotsinger drove in three runs and Cade Nelson drove in two in the opener for Harlan.

Ryan Turner was credited with the game one loss after scattering four hits and seven earned runs in three innings of work.

Gavin Sisson picked up the game two victory on the hill. The freshman allowed two hits and struck out six in the four-inning outing.

Benn Christiansen took the game two loss for the Rams after allowing five hits and four earned runs in five innings.

Christiansen had three hits and Turner belted his second home run of the season while driving in two runs on the night.
