Sheila Ann Vrbka, age 75, of Glenwood
Sheila Ann Vrbka, age 75, of Glenwood, formerly of Pierce, Neb., died Dec. 20, 2009, in Omaha. Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 10 a.m., at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Glenwood. Rev. Don Bruck will officiate. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery.
She was born Nov. 16, 1934, in Trethomas, Wales Great Britain to Maurice and May (Salmon) Fell. Her family courageously survived the Battle of Britain during the Blitz. Following her education, she met her future husband Larry while he was serving in the Air Force in England. The two were united as one on Dec. 31, 1955, in Stopsley Luton, England. To this union two children were born, Paul and Catherine. She truly enjoyed being a homemaker. The family later moved to the United States where Mrs. Vrbka became a citizen, however, she remained proud of her English heritage and traditions. Her family and friends will lovingly remember her saying, “It’s time for a lovely cup of tea!”
While living in Pierce, Neb., she was a devoted member of Right to Life, Pierce County Historical Society and St. Joseph Women’s Altar Society. In 1998, she and her husband moved to Glenwood and joined the Holy Rosary Church where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters and volunteered in many other capacities. She was also a member of Friends of the Library and loved reading British and Victorian novels. She cherished her granddaughters and had a passion for her dog Maddie. She will be fondly remembered by the many lives she touched.
Preceding Mrs. Vrbka in death were her parents and sister, Jean Cole. She is survived by her husband, Larry Vrbka of Glenwood; son, Paul and wife Peg Vrbka of York, Neb.; Cathy and husband David Webster of Glenwood; two granddaughters; extended relatives and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of the Library; Notre Dame Nuns, Prague, Czeck Republic; or Gabriel’s Corner, 131 S. 16th St. Council Bluffs, Iowa 51501. Peterson Mortuary in Glenwood is in charge of arrangements.
