School District Hires New Kid's Place Director

Kid’s Place has found its new coordinator.

After months of searching for a replacement for outgoing director Heidi Lunn, the Glenwood Community School District, who oversees the daycare, announced the hiring of Angie Thomas. Lunn announced earlier this year she would be stepping down June 4.

Thomas’ hiring was confirmed by the Glenwood School District Board of Education in a meeting Monday night.
Glenwood Superintendent Devin Embray said Thomas was one of several talented, qualified candidates that applied and interviewed for the position. Thomas lives in the Glenwood area and comes to Kid’s Place from the Iowa Western Community College Early Childhood Education Center.

“She has a boatload of knowledge and experience in early childhood and pre-school care,” Embray said. “We feel really fortunate to have someone with her experience come in.”

Embray hopes the hiring will put to rest the rumors that the facility might be forced to close temporarily that have circulated this spring as the search for Lunn’s replacement drug out.

“I don’t know if we were as close to the edge of the cliff as the rumors that were going around suggested,” Embray said, adding Thomas will take over her duties in early June.

Kid’s Place, the largest daycare provider in the county, serves children ages 6 weeks through 12 years. This center currently serves 89 children with a staff that fluctuates between 22 and 27.  The daycare is a state-licensed, non-profit program, administered by the coordinator, a parent board and the Glenwood Community School District Board of Education.
