Richard A. Bowden, 73, Glenwood

December 28, 1937  - March 21, 2011

    Richard Allen “Dick” Bowden, 73, of Glenwood, entered into eternal rest March 21, 2011, in Omaha, Neb. Funeral services were held Friday, March 25, 2011, at First Christian Church in Glenwood. Pastor Evan Welcher officiated. Interment was in the Glenwood Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
    He was born Dec. 28, 1937, in Tekamah, Neb., to Darald Basil and Eunice Pearl (Robinson) Bowden. Dick graduated from Tekamah High School in 1955 and attended Peru State College.
    Dick was united in marriage to Janice Ann Tranmer on July 26, 1959, in Tekamah. To this union three children were born, Mike, Lorri and Greg. Dick faithfully served his country in the Coast Guard. Dick and Jan lived in Charleston, S.C., and later moved to Omaha. In 1973, their family moved to Glenwood. Dick retired from the Glenwood Resource Center in 2000 after 23 years of service. The family loved taking annual vacations together, and in recent years Dick and Jan enjoyed traveling the coastal areas to be near the water. He was an avid supporter of youth and coached not only in Glenwood, but also in Malvern and Omaha, combining 45 years of dedication. Dick, along with other local individuals, was instrumental in starting Lil Rams Football, as well as helping in the development of the baseball complex.
    He and Jan were youth leaders for their church both in Omaha and Glenwood. Dick was devoted to his family, church and youth throughout his entire life. Even though he began battling health issues, he could be seen at his grandchildren’s activities as he continued to show his support. He was a true family man in every way. His love of humor and sharing of stories will forever be remembered.
    Preceding Dick in death were his parents. He is survived by his loving family, wife, Jan Bowden; children, Mike and Stephanie Bowden all of Glenwood; Lorri and Randy Greiner of Malvern; Greg and Tricia Bowden of Glenwood; grandchildren, Tori and Kyle Bruno and son, Wyatt; Ali, Mitch and Matt Bowden; Andrew, Brent, Nick and Emily Greiner; Ryan, Kyle and Trent Bowden and special “grandkids” Traci, Kim, Amber, Amy, Ray, John and Tye; sisters, Ruby York; Dorothy and James Fleischman; Bonnie Bruhn; brother-in-law, Raymond and Alice Tranmer of Tekamah; several nieces, nephews, extended relatives and a host of friends.
    Peterson Mortuary in Glenwood was in charge of arrangements.
