Rams top LC on links

Glenwood shot a nine-hole, season-low team score in a 151 to 168 dual victory over Council Bluffs Lewis Central at Fox Run Golf Course in Council Bluffs Friday.

The Glenwood boys, who are No. 1 in the Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association (IHGCA) Class 3A polls, were led by Ryan Leath’s 1-under-par round of 35. Nick Stavas was the runner up with an even par 36.

Colton Book and Kris Yakes both carded 40s to complete the Rams’ scoring.

Seth Wineland led the Titans with a round of 41.

The Ram junior varsity was led by Nate Mohr’s round of 42.

Nebraska City

The Glenwood boys golf team set a new course record with a decisive win over Plattsmouth and Nebraska City at Wildwood Golf Course in Nebraska City.

Playing according to Nebraska rules with five golfers on each team competing and scoring the top four, the Rams smashed the course record of 168 with a team round of 159.

Nebraska City finished with a score of 191 and Plattsmouth 198.

“The effort was there all night long,” said Glenwood coach Michael Joyner. “To shoot a 159 on a course we don’t know with par being 36 was exciting. I’m happy for the guys tonight knowing that we haven’t hit stride yet. Big things are there for this team if we can keep improving and we keep grinding on the course when things aren’t going well.”

Colton Book was the medalist, continuing his strong senior season with one-over-par round of 37. Nick Stavas came on strong with a round of 39 to take runner-up honors. Both Book and Stavas beat the previous team course record for Wildwood of 40 set in 2003.

Ryan Leath carded a 41 and Eli Bales and Pierce Harrington 42s to complete the Rams’ scoring.

Harlan 169

Glenwood won it’s 20th straight dual match with a 155 to 169 victory over Harlan last Tuesday at the Glenwood Golf Course.

The Rams’ Ryan Leath and the Cyclones’ Jay Swanson both carded 2-over-par-37s but Swanton won top medalist honors on a cardback tie-breaker.

Nick Stavas and Colton Book both shot 38s to give the Rams three scores in the 30s.  

“I was really happy with our effort today,” said Glenwood coach Michael Joyner. “We made a couple of mistakes but the attitude was positive the whole night. We’re really looking forward to some nicer weather and some days where we can practice on what we need to work on. Really happy for Ryan and Nick to bounce back and post really solid scores and for Colton to keep up his great play.”

Cooper Talich shot a 39 on the night and Kris Yakes a 40 to lead the Rams junior varsity.

Red Oak 215

The Glenwood boys golf team downed Red Oak 158 to 215 in a Hawkeye 10 Conference dual at the Glenwood Golf Course Monday.

The Rams’ Colton Book shoot an even par-35 to earn top medalist honors and teammate Eli Bales shot a 39 for a runner-up nod.

“There were some really good things on the course today,” said Glenwood coach Michael Joyner. “I think that not having practice is catching up with us. We have to power through the tough holes and keep on fighting to shoot well. We are mentally tougher this year than in years past and I’m sure the guys will find a way to learn from tonight and come back tomorrow stronger than ever.”

Pierce Harrington carded a 40 for Glenwood with Ryan Leath finishing at 44 and Nate Mohr 45.

Dax Lappala shot a 39 to lead the Ram junior varsity.
