Rams sweep team titles at LC Invite

The Glenwood girls and boys picked up the team titles at the Council Bluffs Lewis Central Invitational Cross Country meet Saturday on the campus of Iowa Western Community College.

The Glenwood girls nipped Harlan 43-44 in the team standings. On the boys side, Glenwood finished with 57 points, nine better than the runner up host Titans.

The Cyclones’ Lindsey Sonderman won top honors in the girls race with a time of 20:15.9 and teammate Kai Bieker was second in 21:03.2. But the Rams’ had four runners place in the top 10, led by Madelyn Berglund’s third place time of 21:42.8. Rachel Mullennax (fifth), Breckyn Petersen (sixth) and Riley Wiese (eighth) rounded out Glenwood’s top finishers.

“Four in the top 10 is very exciting,” said Glenwood girls coach Marissa Klindt. “One of our varsity runners went down during the race, and our sixth and seventh runners stepped up immediately. They were both ready and willing to move up to help us grind out a team victory.”

Ryley Nebel placed 22nd to complete the Rams’ scoring.

Competing without top runner Andrew Smith for the second straight meet, Glenwood’s Bryant Keller once again stepped up to lead the state top 10 ranked Rams. The sophomore ran a 17:36.8 to finish third.

Lewis Central’s Ethan Eichhorn was the top finisher with a time of 16:58.4.

Liam Hayes added a seventh place finish, Dillon Anderson was 10th, Jake Shannon was 17th and Jackson Griffin was 22nd to complete Glenwood’s scoring.
