Rams swat Cyclones in Hawk-10 tennis

    The Glenwood boys tennis team traveled to Harlan on Friday and came away with a 7-2 Hawkeye 10 Conference victory over the Cyclones. 

    Ryan Hansen, Jakob Rhodes and Garrett Hembry all swept their opponents in singles matches for Glenwood.  Dillon Stane battled with Willy Henrich at the beginning of their match but finished with an 8-5 win in their No. 2 match. 
    Both Grant Nikseresht and Grant Stivers suffered losses to the Cyclones.  Stivers was down 7-0 but fought back to 7-4 before falling 8-4. 

    The duo of Nikseresht and Stane in their No. 1 doubles match came from behind 4-3 to win 8-5. 
    “They turned up the heat and hit some great winning shots,” said Glenwood coach Jim Tucker. 
    The combination of Hembry and Rhodes also came back from a 3-0 deficit to win 8-4 in their No. 3 doubles match.
    The Ram junior varsity won their match 9-0.

    The Glenwood boys tennis team played what coach Jim Tucker called their best match of the season but still came up short in a 5-4 dual loss to Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln on Thursday.

    Dillon Stane got a big singles win for the Rams over senior Dan Hopper in the No. 2 match up. 
    Ryan Hansen had a similar performance winning 8-4 as his blistering forehand and smoking first serve overwhelmed Ryan Koontz in the No. 4 match.
     Garrett Hembry’s victory in the final singles match made the match score 3-3 heading into the doubles portion.  Hembry then teamed up with Jake Rhodes to skunk their opponents 8-0 tying up the match 4-4.  After Grant Nikseresht and Stane lost their No. 1 doubles match to Alex Crowl and Koontz, the Rams’ Grant Stivers and Ryan Hansen battled to the very end losing 8-6 to Jacob Ragland and Zach Green for the match winner.

    Grant Nikseresht powered the Glenwood boys tennis team to a 6-3 victory over Shenandoah after picking up a dominating singles victory and teaming with Garrett Hembry to capture a doubles win. 
    Nikseresht, dominated Jeff Armstrong 10-1 in their No. 1 singles match and came back with Hembry in the No. 2 doubles matches to edge Adam Stauffer and Andrew Rolf 10-8.
    Grant Stivers and Hembry both won close singles matches winning 11-9 and 11-10, respectively.
