Rams going ‘red’ for Oct. 7 football game

    The statistics are alarming. Major cardiovascular diseases, including stroke, caused 33.3 percent of total deaths in 2007 in Mills County. 
    Cardiovascular disease (CVD) claims more lives than the next four most common causes of death combined, including cancer.
    Research consistently shows that Americans are gaining weight and working longer hours. More of the nation’s workforce is in sedentary occupations, which leads to physical inactivity, which leads to greater risk for heart disease and stroke.  Today, nearly one in three American kids and teens is overweight or obese and the numbers are projected to climb if lifestyles are not changed.
    Glenwood Community High School, under the leadership of the Reach/SADD students, is partnering with the American Heart Association along with several Glenwood-area businesses to come together  to improve the health of Americans by dedicating the Oct. 7 football game against Winterset High School with an American Heart Association Red Out. 
    The goal of the Red Out is to fill the stands with everyone in Red Out Shirts that can be purchased for a $12 donation through the Glenwood Community High School office.  T-shirts will also be available at the game that evening.
