Rams 8-1 after 1-0 win over Cyclones

    The Glenwood boys soccer team improved to 8-1 on the season and 7-0 all time at Creighton University’s Morrison Stadium with a 1-0 victory over Harlan last Tuesday.

    The Rams Zack Sorensen booted in a goal in the game’s 22nd minute and it was all Glenwood needed to hold off the 4-5 Cyclones and run their record to a perfect 5-0 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference.
    “We talked after the game, I wasn’t disappointed in how we played at all; I just didn’t think we took advantage of our opportunities,” said Glenwood coach Mike Artist. “I think we lost some intensity in the second half, but I’m happy to get a conference win.”
    Glenwood controlled from the opening whistle, spending most of their time on the Cyclones end of the field. For the game Glenwood out shot Harlan 21-3. Yet, the 1-0 victory doesn’t show the dominance the Rams had or, should have had, said Artist.
    “This was one of those games where Harlan sort of surprised us,” he said.
    “They’re a little better than I think we thought they were. I think we dominated both ends but it came down to capitalizing on opportunities. It’s been an issue for us all year. We need to put shots in when we have them.”

    “But I have to give their (goal) keeper credit. He really played a good game and my hat’s off to him.”
    With less than three weeks to go in the season and hitting the meat of their schedule, Artist knows it’s time for his team to hit their stride.
    The Rams will travel to the Waverly-Shell Rock Tournament on Saturday where Glenwood will be one of seven ranked teams playing in the eight-team field.
    “We’re seven weeks into the season and this one (week) may be our toughest,” said the coach. “I think we’re ready.”
