Ram girls down St. Albert, Clarinda in tennis

    The Glenwood girl’s tennis team just missed a shut-out victory over Council Bluffs St. Albert last Tuesday with an 8-1 victory.   
    Ana Van Scoy played a tough match and won  her No. 1 match against Catie Faust, who previously had beaten Van Scoy in a super tiebreaker earlier this year at the Shenandoah Tournament. Van Scoy won that match 8-5 and went on to pair with Grace Newman for a 8-4 doubles win.
  Rachel Tucker, Abbe Stipe, and Marely Chavez all won their singles matches 8 – 0.  
    On the doubles side Stipe and Chavez had another shut out while Shelby Cronk and Tucker used aggressive net play to post an 8-2 win.
    The Saintes lone win over Glenwood came in the No. 5 singles match where Katie Herrington defeated Newman 8-5.

    The Glenwood girls tennis team traveled to Clarinda Monday and came away with a come-from-behind 5-4 victory.  
    Abbe Stipe, Grace Newman, and Marely Chavez captured key wins for the Rams after starting the singles portion with three straight losses.  

    Newman easily won by attacking the net and putting the ball away for a score of 8-1 and Marely Chavez scored another singles win 8-3 by demonstrating aggressive first serves, said Glenwood coach Callie Ohm.  
    Abbe Stipe was up 5-2 before the Cardinals' Alyssa Alexander heated up and hit some aggressive shots to make it a close match, 7-6.  Stipe showed endurance when she won a long deuce point to win the match 8-6 and to tie the singles score 3-3.
    The doubles teams of Ana Van Scoy and Chavez, Newman and Shelby Cronk and Rachel Tucker and Stipe closed out the Cardinals with a sweep of the doubles matches.
