Phyllis J. Matula, 77, Glenwood

March 13, 1934 – March 31, 2011

    Phyllis Jean Matula, 77, of Glenwood entered into eternal rest March 31, 2011, at Linnwood Estates in Glenwood. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, April 9, 2011, at the First Christian Church in Glenwood.
    She was born March 13, 1934, in Omaha, Neb., to Frank Charles and Phoebe May (Holmes) Nilius and graduated from North High School in Omaha in 1952.
    Phyllis married John James Matula on July 27, 1957, in Omaha. From their union were born five children, Timothy, Chris, Joan, Julia and Valerie. As the children grew older, she was able to have a short career with the Army Corps of Engineers. The family moved to rural Pacific Junction in 1973 and all the children graduated from Glenwood High. She was an active member of the First Christian Church of Glenwood, serving on the office ministry team.
    Preceding her death were her parents, three siblings and her grandson James. She is survived by her husband John Matula of Glenwood, children Tim and Dana Matula of Glenwood, Chris and Suzanne Matula of Kimberly, Wis., Joan and Pat Dougherty of Berthoud, Colo., Julie and Richard Connely of Overland Park, Kan., Valerie and Allan Schuld of Glenwood and 10 grandchildren. Memorials can be made to the First Christian Church, Glenwood.
