Gary Ernest Lindauer, age 63, of Glenwood

Gary Ernest Lindauer, age 63, of Glenwood, died at the University of Nebraska Medical Center on Nov. 9, 2009. Memorial services were held at Hertz Funeral Home of Glenwood on Nov. 12, 2009, with Rev. Mr. Dennis Lovell officiating.

    One of two children of Amanda (Poiser) Lindauer and Raymond Carl Lindauer, he was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on Jan. 16, 1946.  He grew up in Bedford, Ohio, where he graduated from high school in 1964. Following school, he attended the Ohio State University before being drafted into the Army in 1967.  He served as an Army Medic for three years and was stationed in Omaha. Following his discharge, he attended the University of Omaha.

    He and Sheila L. Altman were married in Earling, on Aug. 22, 1970. They made their home in Omaha and were blessed with a son, Zach Altman Lindauer. Mr. Lindauer began his lifelong grocer career at Food City in Omaha. In 1978, the family moved to Glenwood, where he eventually began working for Kaiman’s grocery store.  He loved to bowl; enjoyed bird watching, and volunteered at the Fontenelle Forest in Omaha.

    He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Carl Szabo. He is survived by his son, Zach Lindauer of St. Joseph, Mo.; sister, Linda Szabo of Bedford, Ohio; and friend, Sheila Altman of Glenwood.

    A memorial fund has been established.
