Roger Harold Patterson, age 69, of Akron
Roger Harold Patterson, age 69, of Akron, died Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009, at the Akron Fire Station in Akron.
Mr. Patterson was born June 9, 1940, in Tabor, the son of Harold and Neva (Carlberg) Patterson. He attended school in Thurman, and graduated from Thurman High School. Following his schooling, he began his career in the transportation business. For the past 30 years, he has been a truck driver for Warren Transport in Waterloo. In December of this year, he was to be honored for his 30 years of service and dedication to the company.
In 1981, he moved with his family to Akron. He was united in marriage to Patricia Robertson Coyle on Sept. 20, 1996, in Elk Point, S.D.
Mr. Patterson’s life was dedicated to the trucking business. When he wasn’t on the road, he was working on his truck. He was a member of the Truckload Carriers Association for many years. Through the years, he received several safe operator awards. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Patterson; his father-in-law, Calvin Robertson. Survivors include his wife, Patricia of Akron; his mother: Neva Patterson of Akron; four children: Faithann Kemnitz and her husband Wally of Leigh, Neb.; Robin Kinnison and her husband Randy of Ault, Colo.; Roger Dean Ramsey and his wife Robin of Nunn, Colo.; and Jeff Patterson and his wife Kelly of Craig, Colo.; three step-children: Shane Coyle and his wife Heather of Akron; Jon Coyle and his wife Julie of Akron; and Ryan Coyle and his wife Laci of North Sioux City, S.D.; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister Jean Hankins of Akron; his mother-in law Derith Robertson of Akron; two nephews; and his faithful companion: “Tucker.”
Memorials can be made in his name to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center. The Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron was in charge of arrangements.
