City Budget Calls For Slight Decrease In Tax Levy

The city of Glenwood is proposing a slight decrease in its tax levy rate for the 2021-2022 fiscal year.

The levy is projected to drop from the current rate of 14.31788 (per $1,000 taxable valuation) to 14.24940, according to Glenwood City Administrator Angie Winquist.

“The regular taxable valuation went up a little bit and our health insurance, IPERS, FICA and other employee benefits went up just slightly,” Winquist told city council members at their regular meeting Tuesday, Jan. 26. “But overall, we’re going to have a smaller tax from last year because of valuations.”

The city has scheduled a virtual public hearing on the proposed 2021-2022 budget and tax levy for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23.

The public hearing is an opportunity for Glenwood residents to ask questions and voice objections or support for the proposed city budget.

The notice provides the necessary log-in information for residents who want to  participate in the virtual public hearing. A telephone number is also provided for citizens who prefer to call in for the hearing.
