Heritage Car and Truck Show Returning To Glenwood Lake Park

The Mills County Historical Museum’s second annual Mills County Heritage Car and Truck Show is Saturday at Glenwood Lake Park.

If you’re looking for a special way to help Dad celebrate Father’s Day this weekend, the Mills County Heritage Car and Truck Show might be just the event you’re looking for.

More than 200 classic vehicles are expected to be showcased at Glenwood Lake Park on Saturday. The show will run from 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Admission is free.

The show, in its second year, is sponsored by the Mills County Historical Museum.

“We picked Father’s Day Weekend because Dad is probably the car guy in the family and would enjoy coming to the show,” museum director Stephen Hunt said. “We have a lot of people around here that actually have (classic cars). A lot of people come over from Nebraska because that’s where a lot of the clubs are at.

“Many of the cars are really tripped out. I thought a (Ford) Model A was the coolest of everything we had here last year. That is just a classic.”
Hunt said the cars and trucks entered in the show will compete for custom-made trophies in 24 classes, including Hot Rod, Teen Class, Rat Rod, Best Modified Vehicle and Best Of Show.

“We’re giving away custom-made trophies again and second place gets a custom-made wood plaque,” he said.

Special recognition will also be given to the oldest vehicle that’s resided in Mills County since the  first day it was purchased.

“If they have the validation and paperwork to prove that car was a Mills County car forever, you bought it or you inherited it and it’s the oldest car in the group that’s actually Mills County, the museum will give them a trophy,” Hunt said.
Judging will begin at 11:30 a.m. and trophies will be presented at 2:30 p.m.

The entry fee is $15 per vehicle if registered before the day of the show or $20 at the gate. An entry form is posted on the Mills County Historical Museum website. The first 50 entrants to arrive on the day of the show will receive a commemorative canvas “ditty bag.”

In addition to the classic cars and trucks, the event will include children’s activities,  a light breakfast and lunch will be available for purchase in “The Zeum” building, a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, vendors and a motorcycle display.

Free shuttle service will be provided to the show from Glenwood Community High School and the horseshoe pit area east of the park entrance.

The car and truck show is a major fundraising event for the Mills County Historical Museum, located on the park grounds.

“We dropped Keg Creek Days a long time ago and I’ve always been wanting to do something as big and develop it correctly so that it continues and continues and continues,” Hunt said. “I would like to see this eventually grow so much that we go from here up the roadway around the square. I mean big – I’ve been to some car shows with 3,000 cars.”
