Glenwood Aquatic Center Opening Planned For June 12

Repairs at the Glenwood Aquatic Center delayed the opening of the facility.
The long-awaited opening of the Glenwood Aquatic Center is scheduled to take place Monday, June 12.
“That is still the plan,” Glenwood City Administrator Amber Farnan said Tuesday morning. “It is in working order right now. The pumps have been running and then we turned on the play feature and that was all working OK. It’s holding water, as far as we can tell, and we’ve had it running since Thursday.”
Farnan said public works employees have been at the facility cleaning up around the decking area where some underground repairs were made to stop water-loss issues. Concrete is expected to be poured today as the repair work winds down.
Late last week, lifeguards were at the aquatic center for orientation and training and on Tuesday of this week season passes became available for purchase at City Hall.
To compensate for the delayed opening of the aquatic center, the city is offering a 10 percent discount off the price of season passes. Pricing options are posted on the city’s website (cityofglenwood.org).
Normal office hours at City Hall are Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. City Hall will also be open for the sale of pool passes on Saturday, June 10, from 9 a.m. – noon. City staff will also be at the aquatic center on opening day (Monday) from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Any person or family planning on purchasing pool passes on opening day is asked to email a completed application ahead of time so it can get it entered into the system prior to Monday. Applications should be emailed to cityclerk@cityofglenwood.org, along with pictures for membership cards. Credit card payment can be taken over the phone by calling City Hall at 712-527-4717.
“We are offering e-passes again this year,” Farnan said. “They can be emailed directly to you and saved to your phone. This is an easy way to make sure you always have your pass with you.”
Multiple water loss issues forced the to be closed for the entire 2022 swimming season and a delay to the start of the 2023 season.
Hours for the 2023 season are June 12 – Aug. 20 or Aug. 21 from 1-8 p.m. and then Aug. 26-27 and Sept. 2-4 from 1-5 p.m.
