City Making Changes To Shelter Reservation Fees At Glenwood Lake Park

The Glenwood City Council has approved a new rate structure for picnic shelter reservations at Glenwood Lake Park.
At the recommendation of the Glenwood Park Board, the city will now be offering both partial and full-day reservations. An “AM” or “PM” shelter reservation will cost $25. The new fee for reserving a shelter for an entire day will be $45. Previously, shelters could be reserved for an entire day for $20.
“We’re opening it up so that more people can use the large shelters,” said Glenwood City Clerk Theresa Simonetti. “They have more opportunities, versus limiting it to just one person. That happened quite a few times last year where someone was only going to use it for a couple hours and because it had been reserved for the whole day, we weren’t allowed to make an additional reservation.”
According to language of a resolution passed by the city council at its regular meeting last week, the “Full Day” rate is defined as the middle of the day and use of the shelter for four hours or more.
Groups or individuals renting a shelter for a half-day in the morning when there is a second reservation for the same shelter in the afternoon, will be required to clear away all debris in the shelter and transfer all trash bags from the smaller trash can at the shelter to a large centrally-located dumpster. They also will be encouraged to take a photo of the cleaned shelter after use and before the second reservation arrives. Photos of the cleaned shelter should be sent to the Park Supervisor’s phone.
By reserving a shelter, the citizen agrees to the clean up fee of $50, if one should be required. Clean up fee will be charged at $50.00, if necessary. The city has three large shelters available for rental – one on the northeast end of the park and two near the central playground area.
Reservations are not accepted for the smaller shelters scattered around park.
Simonetti said options and expectations will be explained at the time reservations are requested.
“We’re definitely communicating with whoever wants to reserve the shelter - talk about the time frame, what they have in mind, clean-up time, set-up time, things like that.” she said. “We have some people who’ll say, ‘I don’t think we’re going to be done or I don’twant to have a cutoff time so we just want to reserve it for the whole day.”
Shelter reservations can be made by calling City Hall at 712-527-4717. Payment can be made in person at City Hall or electronically through an online link.
“We do cash, check or credit cards,” Simonetti said. “The only thing, with the credit card there is an additional fee. We don’t get that fee, it goes to the credit card company.”
