New Home For Public Health

It’s been a smooth transition for employees at Mills County Public Health (MCPH) as they get settled in at their new location on the campus of the Glenwood Resource Center.

     In January, MCPH made the short move across campus to a four-level building at 212 Independence. The building previously housed offices for the Area Education Agency.
    “I think it’s a more professional office. We’ll be able to expand our educational activities and offer more classes in house,” MCPH Administrator Sheri Bowen said. “We also believe it’s a much better working environment for our staff.”
     With 11,000 square feet, MCPH has nearly doubled the size of its office.
     “We’re really pleased to have all the extra space,” Bowen said. “We have more room for storage and classroom space. This building will also give us room to grow. Environmentally, it’s also better.”
      Bowen said the new office will allow MCPH to expand its educational programs and classes on site as well providing ample work and conference space for staff.
    The programs available through MCPH range from immunization clinics and family-centered service programs to home nursing care and environmental health.
 MCPH has a staff of 22 employees. The office receives about one-third of its funding from grants, one-third from county tax dollars and one-third from fees paid by patrons.
  MCPH leases its office space at Glenwood Resource Center from the state of Iowa for $1,800 per month, $400 more than it paid at its previous location on the resource center campus at 101 Central.
   Bowen said a public open house at the new MCPH facility will likely take place this spring.
